Instructions:

Pit the cherry and sprinkle thickly with sugar(1) in a colander to form juice and drain.

Knead egg, flour, water and salt into a smooth, firm dough and roll it out thinly. Using a glass, cut out round disks of dough and top with a few cherries. Press the edges together so that they do not fall apart during cooking.

Place dumplings in simmering water and make meanwhile until they come to the surface of the water. Lift out of the water with a slotted spoon.

Melt cornstarch (maizena) in a little bit of cold liquid and bring to boil with sugar(2) and the cherry juice. Cool and add to the wareniki form.

Sour sour cream or crème fraiche is served separately with the wareniki.
