Spooky Ghost Curry

For the rice ghosts first fill the (raw!) Rice in a sieve and rinse with water in several passes, preferably 2-3 times. Then transfer to a bowl, cover with cold water and soak for at least 2 hours (but preferably overnight). Then drain.

Pour water (2 cups) with rice into a pot and bring to a boil once. Then cover and simmer gently until the rice has absorbed the water.

For the curry, peel potatoes and carrots and cut into small cubes, setting aside about 1/2 carrot for decoration. Also dice pumpkin very finely. Peel onion and chop finely.

Heat oil in a large pot. Sauté cardamom pods and clove in it until intensely fragrant. Add onion, diced potatoes, carrots and pumpkin. Immediately dust with all the ground spices and cocoa and stir-fry. Deglaze with water, season with salt and pepper. Simmer over low heat until the vegetables are tender and the mixture has “cooked down” to a nice creamy consistency. Stir from time to time.

Remove clove and cardamom pods from pot. Fold in coconut milk and season the curry again with salt and pepper.

Form several small ghosts from the finished cooked rice with moistened hands. Paint eyes and mouth with food coloring. Using two dabs each of the curry juice, place small cheeks next to the mouths.
