A simple but delicious cake recipe:

Heat the syrup, fat and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Stir a little water with a little potash, mix flour with the remaining ingredients and knead with the not too hot syrup mixture to a smooth dough. Leave to cool for 30 minutes.

Roll out the dough very thinly, cut out shapes and bake on a baking tray lined with parchment paper for about 7-10 minutes at 175 °C in a fan oven. These brown cakes get too dark very quickly, on the other hand they must be baked long enough to be just as crispy after cooling – if the dough was rolled out too thickly, this degree of hardness is difficult to achieve.
