A simple but delicious cake recipe:

Preheat the oven to 165 °C. Break the chocolate into pieces and melt in a heavy saucepan or water bath over medium heat.

In a baking bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt. In a measuring cup, stir through coffee and whiskey.

In a large baking bowl, beat butter, sugar and vanilla essence until creamy. One at a time, fold in the eggs. Pour in the melted chocolate and stir thoroughly. Then alternately fold in half of the flour mixture and half of the coffee-whiskey mixture, repeating the process and mixing it all together until it forms a smooth batter, which should now have a fairly thin consistency.

Pour the batter into a well-greased 25 cm loaf pan (or spherical cake pan) and bake the cake in the heated oven for 50 to 60 min. To check if the cake is cooked, pierce the center of the cake with a metal skewer; if no dough sticks to it, the cake is cooked.

Remove from the stove and cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Carefully turn out of the pan and dust with powdered sugar to taste before cutting.
