For the hazelnut cake, mix butter, sugar, yolks and vanilla sugar very well. Beat egg whites until stiff and mix lightly with grated hazelnuts and baking powder and fold into yolk mixture.

Cook the mixture in a greased, floured, closed pudding mold for 1 hour in a water bath.
