Cut the bread or braid into 5 mm thick slices. Heat butter (1) in a coated pan and toast the bread in portions until golden.

Mix eggs, milk, cream and sugar (1) well. Mix the cinnamon and sugar (2).

Generously butter a baking dish. Layer the fruit – frozen can still be used – with the bread, ending with fruit. Sprinkle each layer with cinnamon sugar. At the end, pour the milk-cream glaze and top with butter flakes.

Bake the gratin in the oven heated to 180 degrees on the lowest shelf for 40 to 45 minutes. If it browns too much, cover it with aluminum foil. Serve hot or lukewarm.
