For the cherry pie, separate the eggs, beat the egg whites until stiff, adding sugar as you go. Whisk yolks briefly and gently fold in together with flour.

Pit the cherries. Preheat the oven (moderate heat). Grease a baking dish and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

Pour half of the mixture into the dish, top with cherries and spread the rest of the mixture on top.

Bake the cherry cobbler for about 1 hour.
