Instructions:

Butter a baking dish of about 23 x 18 or 20 cm (based on 4 servings).

Finely butter the bread slices on both sides. Peel and finely slice the apples and sprinkle with sugar-cinnamon.

Spread the casserole dish with halved bread slices, lightly sugar and spread a very thin layer of apple and few raisins evenly over it, then repeat bread and so on until all together is used up. Finish with bread and add remaining sugar on top.

Beat eggs, milk and cream until slightly creamy and pour over casserole.

Make sure that the liquid penetrates to the bottom layer of bread and moistens the whole thing nicely, if necessary, help it with your fingertips.

Bake in oven heated to 200 degrees for 25 to half an hour until golden brown.

Garnish with jelly dots and serve while still warm with liquid vanilla ice cream or cream.
