Apple Casserole with Sauerkraut

Cut half of the bacon into narrow strips. Peel and dice the onions. Fry bacon strips in oil. Add onions and sauté until translucent.

Add juniper, sauerkraut, bay leaf and wine and cook everything together for 20 minutes with closed lid, season with salt and pepper.

Peel and rinse the potatoes, cut into slices and cook in boiling salted water for 3-5 minutes.

Remove skin from apples, cut out core and cut apples diagonally into slices.

Fill potatoes, sauerkraut and apples in layers into a greased baking dish and cover with the remaining bacon slices.

Bake everything together in the heated oven at 200 °C (gas 3, convection oven 20 min. at 200 °C ) on the 2nd rack from the bottom for 20-25 min. Rinse the chives, then cut into small rolls and sprinkle over the casserole.

Our tip: Fresh chives are much more aromatic than dried ones!
